Introduction to ASL Workshop

Join the Office of Equity and Inclusion, the Dalhousie ASL Society, and the NSCC ASL Studies Program for an engaging, beginner-friendly introduction to American Sign Language. This interactive in-person workshop will explore the alphabet, foundational ASL vocabulary, everyday phrases, and enhance Deaf culture awareness. No prior experience is required; just bring your curiosity and a willingness to learn new ways of connecting!

Learning Outcomes:

Participants will be able:

1. To recognize the importance of ASL as a language and its role in promoting accessibility and inclusion. And reflect on how learning ASL contributes to inclusive practices in academic and community settings.

2. To demonstrate basic ASL signs and phrases used in everyday interactions (e.g., greetings, introductions, common expressions).

3. To identify key aspects of Deaf culture and etiquette when interacting with Deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.
