Employment equity aims to correct disadvantages in employment experienced by equity deserving groups and introduce positive measures to promote a more representative and inclusive workforce. Dalhousie’s Employment Equity Plan provides us with a set of overarching priorities and concrete actions that will help us realize equity in employment. This workshop aims to raise awareness and empower equity-deserving groups and provide tools and resources to enhance access, opportunities, and success for equity-deserving groups at Dalhousie and in the community.
This workshop's objectives are to:
Lead facilitator, Huwaida Medani, Manager of Employment Equity at Dalhousie, has extensive experience in diversity, inclusion, and social justice. Previously, she served as Senior Advisor, Diversity and Inclusion, with Halifax Regional Municipality. Huwaida has held leadership roles at the YMCA, African Diaspora Association of the Maritimes, and Women’s Employment Outreach. In 2024, she received Dalhousie’s IDDEA Award for Excellence in Inclusion, Diversity, Decolonization, Equity, and Accessibility.
