Employment equity aims to correct disadvantages in employment experienced by equity-deserving groups and to introduce positive measures to promote a more representative and inclusive workforce. Employment equity is also about providing resources to enhance the success of equity-deserving employees.

This session aims to:

  • Review the Employment Equity Policy and Plan
  • Explore how the Employment Equity Plan can protect you from the impact of discrimination in employment
  • Discuss discrimination, and how it impacts recruitment and retention
  • Discuss our shared responsibility in eliminating discrimination
  • Identify where and how to find support

About the Facilitators:
Huwaida Medani is an employment equity manager at Dal. She holds a Masters degree in educational psychology from Mount Saint Vincent University, a Bachelors Degree and a Post Graduate Diploma from the University of Khartoum. Huwaida’s work and advocacy focus on equity, social justice, and community development.

Five years into their graphic design and marketing career, Stef returned to school to study business to find a career that would help people more directly. After graduation and several years of working in temporary positions in the not-for-profit, government, and private sectors, Stef found their place at Dalhousie. Stef's experience with starting over fueled a passion for helping others find their career path. As the Talent Pathways advisor, Stef works with equity-deserving job seekers to find fulfilling work that supports their career goals. Stef has been navigating and advising on staff recruitment at Dalhousie in different capacities for seven years.
