Thinking about retiring? Are you worried about what life will look like in retirement? It’s normal to have fears and anxiety. We all know that financial planning for retirement is important. But there’s research that suggests that planning for your lifestyle in retirement is just as important. Why? Studies have found that when some people retire they can become bored, feel disconnected or depressed, eat and drink more, etc. What’s the best way to avoid this? Lifestyle planning.
The Retired You! retirement lifestyle program, developed by Dr. Sue Hutchinson and colleagues at Dal, is a 4-session webinar-based program designed to prepare you to live a life you will love in retirement. Whether you are planning on retiring soon or just starting to think about this transition, the program will provide you with tools, resources, and information to help you think about and plan for your lifestyle in retirement while also connecting with other recent and soon-to-be retirees in the Dalhousie community.
Planning doesn’t mean creating a schedule to stick to when you retire. Instead, it is about preparing for the kind of life you want to live in retirement, including things like:
Participating in the program will help you set aside a block of time in your workday to help you start to plan for this next exciting phase of life. If you are within five years of retirement, now is a great time to join the program. You can actively participate or sit back and listen. There is also help to use Dal’s online learning system, Brightspace, if you need it.
Note: Dalhousie will offer financial planning workshops at later dates; this webinar does not deal with financial planning
