What you Need to Know about the Canadian Tax System

This session is designed for a wide audience of those who want to better understand Canada's tax system and minimize the amount of tax paid.

Participants will:

  • develop effective strategies to minimize the amount of tax paid
  • learn how to be proactive in tax planning and detailed record keeping
  • understand the three main categories for tax planning:
    • income subject to tax
    • maximizing deductions
    • using all allowable tax credits
  • learn simple tips and tools to save money

Our Presenter: As a financial planner, educator and author, Doug Wright has been helping individuals, families and business owners meet their financial planning needs for over 20 years. He currently serves as President and Financial Planner with Wiltshire Financial Management Inc. in HRM, a company he founded in 2011. Doug has extensive experience in retirement and estate planning, cash flow management, insurance and investments. He is a graduate of Dalhousie University earning his Bachelor of Commerce Degree as well as Saint Mary’s University, where he received his Bachelor of Education Degree, specializing in Math. Doug’s experience and broad range of industry knowledge is recognized throughout Nova Scotia, where he has worked with individuals, multi-generational families, local businesses, and charities.  He is a recreational musician and practices and instructs karate in his spare time. He is also chairman of the board of SSG (Support Services Group), a non-profit support group for people with disabilities.
