Title: The Song and Dance of Teaching: Do We Need to Be Entertainers?
Facilitator: Phillip Joy, Graduate Teaching Assistant, Centre for Learning and Teaching
Date: October 28
Time: 10:00 - 11:30 a.m.
Location: B400, Killam Library
Description: Is your classroom a stage? Are you performing for your students? This discussion and debate will explore whether teachers need to be, or even should be, entertaining students. Should teachers just relay information and knowledge or do teachers need to “entertain” students to be more effective? How do we hold student’s attention with the ever-changing technological distractions? Participants will partake in small group discussions and debate the pros and cons of entertaining students. The workshop will review strategies to promote interactive teaching and engaging students.
