Facilitation Skills – Running Effective Meetings

Date: September 24, 2019
Time: 11:30 am till 1:30 pm
Location:  Student Union Building Room 307

The objectives of this session will be to focus on developing the facilitation skills that move people to action:

1. Moving groups of people forward during change
2. Running highly effective meetings that result in action / progress

Facilitation comes from the word “facile” which means to “make easy”. Strong facilitation skills make it easy for the leader of the meeting and participants to move effectively forward. This may involve facilitating discussions, solving problems, initiating conflict, arriving at decisions or learning together. A good facilitator does this in a way that is inclusive, participatory, effective and action oriented.

Working with groups of people can be both exhilarating and extremely challenging. The facilitator needs a solid understanding of and ability to work with the group’s dynamics. There is a need for better facilitation of meetings of all kinds so that effective outcomes are achieved with the efficient utilization of participants’ time and energy.

This workshop will explore the strategies, skills and tools that can be helpful in facilitating others.
