Each year, Dalhousie transforms the month of October into "Walktober" to encourage faculty, staff and students to get more steps each day to promote health and well-being.
It is easy to do. Simply commit to tracking your steps in the month of October.
Have a group that wants to walk? Create a group at walkaboutns.ca and then invite your colleagues to join online. Be sure to put the word "Dal" in the title of the group so we can find you later, as there will be PRIZES as we go along.
Don't have a group? Individuals can join the Dalplex group called "Dalplex: Raise a Little Health" at walkaboutns.ca and start tracking. Those who join the ‘Dalplex: Raise a Little Health’ team will be entered to win a Personal Training package! See Dalplex.ca for more details.
Don't have a pedometer? Dalplex is giving away pedometers, so stop by the Customer Service desk there and pick one up. There are also lots of apps to download for your smart phone.
Do other activities than walking? Use the step converter on the WalkaboutNS website to convert your running, squash, or swimming to steps so you can get credit for those activities, too.
Prizes include gift cards and an iPad Mini donated by Johnson Insurance - one of Dal's preferred benefit providers, with discounts for faculty and staff.
